OET Preparation in Vietnam for Healthcare Professionals
Private OET coaching for doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals who need an OET result for an accepted professional or registration route.
Prepare for Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking with individual feedback and a plan based on your profession, previous scores and test date.
What is OET?
OET is an English-language test designed for healthcare professionals.
It assesses Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking using healthcare-related contexts rather than the broader academic and everyday topics used in some other English tests.
Healthcare professionals may use OET as English-language evidence when it is accepted by the organisation or professional route they are applying through.
OET preparation for different healthcare professions in Vietnam
OET is used by several healthcare professions, but the professional context of some tasks changes according to the candidate’s role.
Doctors
Doctors taking OET Medicine can use profession-specific preparation for Writing and patient-based Speaking roleplays.
OET for Doctors in Vietnam →Nurses
Nurses can prepare using nursing-specific Writing and Speaking contexts alongside the common Listening and Reading sub-tests.
Dentists
Dental professionals should prepare using the correct profession-specific OET tasks and check the requirements of their intended route.
Pharmacists
Pharmacists preparing for OET can work on the profession-specific communication tasks relevant to their test.
Physiotherapists
Physiotherapy candidates can prepare around their own professional context while developing the broader skills tested by OET.
Other healthcare professionals
Check whether OET offers the appropriate profession-specific test and whether it is accepted for your intended registration or employment route.
Prepare for the skill that is actually holding your result back
Some candidates need preparation across the complete exam. Others already perform well in two or three sub-tests and need concentrated work elsewhere.
OET Writing
Work on selecting relevant information, organising the response, communicating the purpose clearly and writing appropriately for the intended healthcare reader.
OET Speaking
Practise roleplays, respond to patient concerns, explain healthcare information and manage the interaction naturally under test conditions.
OET Listening
Work on understanding healthcare conversations and talks while managing timing, detail and the demands of each task type.
OET Reading
Improve speed, locating information, understanding healthcare texts and making accurate decisions within the available time.
Writing is about choosing the information the reader needs
Candidates sometimes assume that a strong OET letter should include as much information from the case notes as possible.
That can make the response longer without making it more useful.
Good preparation should help you identify the purpose of the communication, select relevant details and organise them so the reader quickly understands what they need to know.
The patient can take the conversation somewhere you did not expect
Memorised phrases can help a candidate start practising, but they are not enough for a convincing roleplay.
The interlocutor may raise a concern, disagree, ask for clarification or introduce information that changes what you need to say next.
Speaking practice should therefore develop listening and response as well as the language required to complete the tasks on the role card.
Listening problems are not always vocabulary problems
A candidate may understand most of a recording and still lose marks because the task requires attention to particular details, fast decisions or accurate note completion.
Review is most useful when you analyse why an answer was missed rather than simply checking the correct option.
Detail
Notice the specific piece of information the question requires without losing the rest of the conversation.
Distractors
Recognise when the speaker changes, qualifies or corrects information during the recording.
Recovery
Move on when one answer is missed so a single problem does not affect the rest of the section.
Reading requires different speeds for different tasks
Reading every word at the same pace is inefficient under exam conditions.
Some questions require quickly locating specific information. Others require closer reading and understanding the writer’s meaning.
Preparation can work on deciding which reading approach the task actually requires.
Locate
Find relevant information quickly without reading an entire text from beginning to end.
Interpret
Understand what the writer means when the answer is not repeated word for word.
Manage time
Avoid spending too long on one difficult item at the expense of the remaining questions.
The preparation should change when you already have OET scores
First-time candidate
You may need to learn how the test works, establish your current performance and build familiarity with all four sub-tests.
Retaking OET
Previous scores give useful information. If only one or two areas remain below the required level, preparation can become much more selective.
If you have already taken OET, send all four previous sub-test scores when you contact us.
Healthcare context does not automatically make OET the better exam for everyone
OET uses healthcare contexts, while IELTS is designed for a broader range of academic, professional and migration purposes.
Some healthcare professionals prefer OET because the situations are familiar. Others may already have stronger IELTS skills or need IELTS for another part of their plans.
The first question should therefore be which tests your route accepts. The second is which format better fits your current English.
| Comparison | OET | IELTS |
|---|---|---|
| Audience | Healthcare professionals | Broad range of candidates |
| Context | Healthcare-related | Academic and general topics |
| Writing | Healthcare professional communication | Academic or General Training tasks |
| Speaking | Healthcare roleplays | Interview-style speaking test |
| Which should you choose? | Check which exams are accepted for your route, then compare the formats against your strengths and weaknesses. | |

An exam problem and a workplace communication problem are not the same thing
OET preparation focuses on performing well in the test.
Medical English focuses on situations you deal with in actual healthcare work: consultations, handovers, case discussions, presentations and communication with international patients or colleagues.
Some professionals eventually need both, but the immediate goal should determine where preparation starts.
Doctors can use the dedicated OET Medicine preparation page
Doctors taking OET Medicine have profession-specific Writing and Speaking situations.
The dedicated doctor page goes further into medical case-note selection, physician correspondence and doctor-patient roleplays without making this general OET page compete for the same intent.
OET for Doctors in Vietnam →Check the current English requirement for your profession and destination
Healthcare professionals in Vietnam may consider OET when planning work or registration in countries such as the UK, Australia, Ireland or New Zealand.
Requirements are not identical across countries or professions and can change. Do not assume that a score or test accepted for one profession automatically applies to another.
UK healthcare routes
Check the current requirements of the relevant UK regulator or organisation for your profession.
Australian healthcare routes
Confirm the English-language evidence required for your profession and registration category before booking OET.
Ireland, New Zealand & other routes
Check the current rules of the professional body or organisation responsible for your intended route.
OET preparation has to fit around shifts, patients and hospital schedules
Healthcare professionals often prepare while working full-time.
That makes prioritisation more useful than trying to complete the same amount of work in every skill every week.
Live coaching can be used for activities that benefit from immediate feedback, while Reading, Listening and some Writing practice can be completed independently between sessions.
Use coached time well
Prioritise roleplays, detailed Writing review and difficult questions that need explanation.
Practise independently
Use available study periods for timed Reading, Listening and written tasks.
Review mistakes
Track recurring problems so every practice task has a reason rather than simply adding more volume.
Build preparation around your current OET performance
Review
Look at your profession, previous scores, current performance and test date.
Prioritise
Decide which sub-tests and task types deserve the most attention.
Practise
Work through OET tasks using realistic timing and profession-appropriate contexts.
Correct
Change recurring mistakes before completing another similar task.

OET preparation in Vietnam: common questions
What is OET?
OET, the Occupational English Test, is an English-language test designed for healthcare professionals. It assesses Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking using healthcare-related contexts.
Who can take OET?
OET provides profession-specific versions for a number of healthcare professions. Candidates should check that the appropriate test exists for their profession and that their intended organisation or registration route accepts it.
Is OET accepted in the UK and Australia?
OET is accepted in a number of healthcare routes in both countries, but the rules depend on the profession and organisation involved. Always confirm the current requirements for your particular application.
Is OET easier than IELTS?
OET may feel more familiar to healthcare professionals because its tasks use healthcare contexts. That does not automatically make it easier. The better option depends on which exams your route accepts and which test format suits your English skills.
Can I prepare for only one OET sub-test?
Yes. Candidates who already have previous results may benefit from concentrated preparation in the sub-test that remains below the result they need.
How long does OET preparation take?
It depends on your current English, profession, previous scores, weakest sub-tests and test date. A retake candidate working on one area needs a different plan from someone preparing for all four sub-tests for the first time.
Can doctors get profession-specific OET preparation?
Yes. Doctors can use the dedicated OET Medicine page for more detailed preparation around physician Writing and Speaking tasks.
Is OET preparation the same as Medical English?
No. OET preparation focuses on the exam. Medical English focuses on communication used in actual healthcare work, including consultations, handovers, meetings and presentations.
Can I prepare for OET online from Vietnam?
Yes. Private online preparation can include Speaking roleplays, Writing correction, exam practice and individual feedback for healthcare professionals based anywhere in Vietnam.
