SAT in Dubai: Test Dates, Registration, Test Centres & What Students Need to Know

Yes, students can take the SAT in Dubai. Registration is completed through College Board, and available test centres are selected during the registration process.

The part that often causes confusion is not the test itself. It is working out which date to choose, where seats are available, what device the student can use, which ID to bring and what has to be completed before test day. This guide brings those practical details together in one place.

The short answer

Can you take the SAT in Dubai? Yes.

Students based in Dubai can register for SAT Weekend administrations and sit the exam at an approved test centre in the UAE. The student does not need to attend an American school and does not need to be a US citizen.

During registration, the student chooses a test date and then sees the centres that currently have availability. This is why an old list of Dubai SAT centres found elsewhere online should not be treated as a guarantee that a particular school will be available for the date you want.

If Dubai has no suitable seats, the student can search for availability elsewhere in the UAE rather than assuming the test cannot be taken.

SAT dates in Dubai

SAT test dates and registration deadlines for 2026–2027

The SAT Weekend dates below apply to students testing internationally, including students in Dubai. The deadlines are set by College Board and expire at 11:59 p.m. US Eastern Time, not Dubai time.

SAT test date Regular registration deadline Late registration / changes deadline
22 August 2026 7 August 2026 11 August 2026
12 September 2026 28 August 2026 1 September 2026
3 October 2026 18 September 2026 22 September 2026
7 November 2026 23 October 2026 27 October 2026
5 December 2026 20 November 2026 24 November 2026
6 March 2027 19 February 2027 23 February 2027
1 May 2027 16 April 2027 20 April 2027
5 June 2027 21 May 2027 25 May 2027

Dates and deadlines can change. Before paying for a test date, confirm the current information in the student’s College Board account.

Do not wait for the deadline if location matters

A registration deadline tells you how long registration is technically open. It does not guarantee that your preferred Dubai centre will still have a seat.

If the student needs a particular part of Dubai, has limited transport options or must test on one specific date, it is sensible to check availability earlier rather than treat the published deadline as a target.

Late registration is available

College Board currently allows late registration worldwide up to the published late-registration deadline. An additional fee applies.

Late registration is useful when plans change, but it does not create additional seats at centres that are already full.

One detail worth noticing in Dubai: College Board deadlines use US Eastern Time. Because Dubai is several hours ahead, families should avoid leaving registration until the final local evening.

SAT registration in Dubai

How to register for the SAT from Dubai

SAT Weekend registration is handled through the student’s College Board account. The student chooses the date, searches the available centres and completes the registration there.

1. Use the student’s College Board account

Registration should be completed in the student’s own account. Check that the student’s name and personal details are entered accurately before moving on.

2. Choose the SAT date

Select the administration that fits the student’s application timeline and school commitments. The date also determines which centres appear as available.

3. Search for a test centre

Search Dubai and, if necessary, widen the search to other emirates. A centre must have an open seat for that specific administration.

4. Complete the required information

Follow the registration flow carefully, including the student’s identifying information and any information required for the registration record.

5. Pay the registration fee

The final checkout shows the applicable registration and international fees, together with any additional charges that apply.

6. Prepare Bluebook before test day

Registration is not the end of the setup. The student still needs an approved device, the Bluebook app and completed exam setup before arriving at the centre.

SAT test centres in Dubai

Where can a student take the SAT in Dubai?

Dubai has approved SAT test centres, but the useful question is not simply which schools have hosted the SAT before. What matters is which centres have an open seat for the student’s chosen date.

Centre participation and capacity can change between administrations. For that reason, the safest way to find a test centre is to search during the College Board registration process rather than rely on a static list copied from a previous test cycle.

Why centre lists go out of date

A school may host one SAT administration and not another, or it may appear in the system with no remaining seats. Seeing a school’s name on an old website does not mean the student can register there now.

Search by the actual test date

The centre search is most useful after the student has chosen a date. Availability can be different in October, November, March or May, even within the same academic year.

Do not choose a test date on the assumption that a particular school will be available. Check the live registration system first.

If Dubai centres are full

A full preferred centre does not necessarily mean changing the entire SAT plan.

If the centre you wanted has no available seats, there are still practical options.

Try another Dubai centre

There may be availability elsewhere in the city even when the most convenient centre is full.

Search another emirate

Students can look for seats elsewhere in the UAE, including locations outside Dubai, if travel on test morning is practical.

Consider another administration

If location matters more than the exact date, a later SAT may offer better centre availability. Check that the new date still works with university deadlines.

If you choose a centre outside Dubai, plan the journey as part of test-day preparation. Morning traffic, parking and an unfamiliar route are not things the student should be dealing with at the last minute.

SAT cost in the UAE

How much does the SAT cost in Dubai?

For international testing, College Board currently charges the standard SAT registration fee plus an international fee.

US$68

Standard SAT registration fee.

US$43

International testing fee for students testing outside the United States.

US$111

Current standard total before any additional services or late fees.

Additional fees can apply

  • late registration: US$38
  • change of test centre: US$34
  • regular cancellation: US$34
  • late cancellation: US$44
  • additional score reports: US$15 each

Changing the test date is different

College Board currently treats a date change differently from simply changing the test centre. To move to another test date, the student generally needs to cancel the existing registration and register for the new administration.

Check the fees shown in the account before making a change, particularly if the registration is already close to the test date.

Fees are current for the 2026 cycle and may change. Always confirm the final amount shown during College Board checkout.

Identification

Check the student’s ID before test morning.

International SAT test takers need acceptable photo identification. The name on the student’s identification should match the name used for the SAT registration.

Bring an accepted physical photo ID

Do not rely on a photo of an ID stored on a phone. The student should check the current College Board ID requirements and bring the original document required for their situation.

For an international student in Dubai, a valid passport is generally the simplest document to use where it meets the current identification requirements.

Check the spelling of the name now

Small differences that seem harmless when registering can become a problem at check-in. Compare the student’s College Board account with the identification that will be used on test day.

Digital SAT device

The student needs more than a registration. The testing device has to be ready too.

The SAT is taken through Bluebook. Students should confirm that their device is supported, install or update the app and complete the required setup before test day.

Devices that may be supported

  • compatible Windows laptop or tablet
  • compatible Mac laptop
  • compatible iPad
  • school-managed Chromebook configured for Bluebook

A mobile phone cannot be used as the testing device.

Do not assume a school laptop will work

School-managed devices may restrict software installation or updates. If the student plans to use a device supplied by school, check Bluebook access well before the test.

Device and operating-system requirements can change, so the current compatibility page should be checked rather than relying on an old device list.

Using Windows? Check the current Bluebook requirements carefully. Device support changes over time, particularly when older operating systems reach the end of support.

No suitable device?

College Board has a device-lending process.

A student who does not have access to a suitable testing device may request one through College Board. This is something to organise early, not a problem to discover during test week.

Request it early

The current deadline is at least 30 days before the test date.

Follow the account instructions

The request is linked to the student’s SAT registration. Complete the information College Board asks for rather than assuming the test centre will have spare devices.

Allow extra time on test day

Students using a loaned device may need to arrive earlier for device collection and setup.

Bluebook

What is Bluebook?

Bluebook is the application used to deliver the Digital SAT. It is where the student completes the exam and where important pre-test setup takes place.

Installing the app the night before the exam is a poor way to discover that a laptop is not compatible, a school device blocks the application or an update is needed.

The student should use Bluebook before test day, not simply have it installed.

Before the SAT

  • confirm that the device is currently supported
  • install or update Bluebook
  • sign in successfully
  • complete the required exam setup
  • make sure the device charges correctly
  • use Bluebook for official practice beforehand
SAT test day in Dubai

What should the student bring to the test centre?

Prepare these before leaving home

  • the required admission ticket from Bluebook
  • acceptable physical photo identification
  • a fully charged approved testing device
  • the charging cable
  • an approved calculator if the student wants a separate one

Remember that Desmos is built in

The Math section includes access to the built-in Desmos graphing calculator. Students may still bring an approved handheld calculator if they prefer to use one.

The important point is familiarity. Test morning is not the time to learn how to use a tool the student has never practised with.

What not to use

Phones and smart devices are tightly restricted.

Students should follow the current test-centre rules carefully. Phones, smartwatches and other connected or recording devices cannot be accessed during the test or breaks unless a specific approved accommodation applies.

Examples of items that can cause problems

  • mobile phones
  • smartwatches and fitness trackers
  • wireless earbuds or headphones
  • smart glasses
  • external reference notes or books
  • unauthorised electronic devices
Arrival and timing

How long does the SAT take?

The current Digital SAT contains 2 hours and 14 minutes of testing time, with a break between Reading and Writing and Math. Students should allow additional time for arrival, check-in and instructions.

Reading & Writing

Two modules of 32 minutes each.

Break

A 10-minute break separates the two sections.

Math

Two modules of 35 minutes each.

The student’s admission information gives the reporting instructions for the test centre. Do not plan arrival around the time the test itself begins.

Digital SAT format

What does adaptive mean on the SAT?

The SAT is not adaptive one question at a time. Each section is divided into two modules.

Performance in the first module helps determine the level of the second module. Within a module, students can move between questions, review answers and flag questions for later.

Reading & Writing

Module 1 comes first. The student’s performance influences the difficulty profile of Module 2.

Math

The same two-module structure applies independently to the Math section.

SAT scores

When do SAT scores come out?

Weekend SAT scores are released after the test through the student’s College Board account. For the fall 2026 administrations, College Board has published specific score-release dates.

SAT date Published score-release date
22 August 2026 4 September 2026
12 September 2026 25 September 2026
3 October 2026 16 October 2026
7 November 2026 20 November 2026
5 December 2026 18 December 2026

Score-release schedules can be updated. Students should check the date shown in their College Board account for their own administration.

Sending SAT scores

Does the student have to send every score?

Not necessarily. Score-reporting rules depend partly on the university, so students should check the policy of each institution before deciding what to send.

College Board currently provides four free score reports per SAT administration when ordered within the eligible period. Later or additional reports carry a fee.

Before sending scores

  • check each university’s current testing policy
  • check whether the institution requires all scores
  • confirm application deadlines
  • avoid sending a score automatically without knowing how it will be used
Taking the SAT again

Can a student retake the SAT? Yes.

College Board does not impose a fixed lifetime limit on the number of SAT attempts. A student can register for another available administration.

That does not mean every student should keep retaking the exam. Another attempt makes most sense when there is enough time to address something specific between tests rather than simply repeat the same preparation and hope for a different result.

Detailed score strategy belongs in a separate discussion because the right decision depends on the student’s target universities, existing score, section breakdown and application timeline.

International schools in Dubai

Can IB, A-Level, CBSE and American-curriculum students take the SAT?

Yes. The SAT is not restricted to students following an American school curriculum.

IB students

An IB student can take the SAT where it is relevant to the universities being considered. The practical issue is often fitting an SAT date around coursework, Internal Assessments and IB examination periods.

British / A-Level students

Students following IGCSEs and A Levels can also sit the SAT. It may be relevant when applying to universities that require or consider standardised testing.

CBSE and Indian-curriculum students

Students at Indian-curriculum schools in Dubai can register for the SAT in the same way. Whether it is useful depends on the universities and programmes they plan to apply to.

American-curriculum students

Attending an American school does not by itself mean that every university application requires the SAT. The requirement comes from the university or programme, not simply from the student’s school curriculum.

University requirements

Is the SAT required for university?

There is no single answer that applies to every university.

Some institutions require an SAT or ACT. Others allow applicants to decide whether to submit scores. Some do not consider SAT scores at all. Policies can also change between admission cycles.

The same caution applies in the UAE. A university may use SAT scores for a particular curriculum, subject requirement or programme while another institution does not require them.

Do not decide whether the student needs the SAT from a general list of “US universities” or “UAE universities”. Check the official admissions requirements for each target institution and for the year in which the student will apply.

Score targets

What is a good SAT score for a student in Dubai?

There is no Dubai-specific score that is automatically good.

A useful score target depends on the student’s university list, intended programme, academic record and the testing policy for that admission cycle.

A score that is more than sufficient for one university may be below the typical range at another. That is why score planning should begin with the student’s actual applications rather than an arbitrary number such as 1300, 1400 or 1500.

After registration

Registered for the SAT? The next question is what the student actually needs to improve.

Registration and preparation are separate decisions. Once the student has a useful baseline score, preparation should be based on the gap between the current performance and the target, including the split between Math and Reading & Writing.

If you are looking specifically for private preparation rather than registration information, see our private SAT preparation in Dubai page.

Common questions

SAT in Dubai: practical questions families ask before test day

Is the SAT available in Dubai?

Yes. Students can register for SAT Weekend administrations and choose an available approved test centre in the UAE.

Do I need to be a US citizen to take the SAT in Dubai?

No. The SAT is taken by students of many nationalities. Eligibility is not limited to US citizens.

Do I need to attend an American school?

No. Students following IB, British, Indian, American and other curricula can take the SAT.

Where are SAT test centres in Dubai?

Available centres are shown during the registration process. They can vary by test date and seat availability, so an old static list should not be treated as current.

What if every Dubai centre is full?

Search other available centres in Dubai, widen the search to another emirate or consider a different SAT administration if the application timeline allows it.

How much does the SAT cost in Dubai?

The current standard international total is US$111, consisting of the US$68 SAT registration fee and US$43 international fee. Extra services or late registration can add to that amount.

Is the SAT still digital in Dubai?

Yes. Students at international test centres take the current Digital SAT through Bluebook on an approved device.

Can I use an iPad for the SAT?

Supported iPads can be used, provided they meet the current Bluebook requirements. Device requirements should be checked before the test because supported operating systems can change.

Can I take the SAT on my phone?

No. A phone cannot be used as the SAT testing device.

Does the Digital SAT include a calculator?

Yes. Desmos is available inside Bluebook for the Math section. Students may also bring an approved handheld calculator if they prefer.

How long is the SAT now?

The current Digital SAT contains 2 hours and 14 minutes of testing time, plus a break and the time required for check-in and instructions.

Can I take the SAT in Abu Dhabi if Dubai is full?

Yes, provided an approved centre there has an available seat for the chosen test date and travelling there is practical.

Can I change my test centre after registering?

College Board allows test-centre changes within the applicable deadline, subject to availability and the current change fee.

Can I change my SAT test date?

A change of test date is generally handled by cancelling the existing registration and registering for the new administration. Check the account for current fees and deadlines before making the change.

Can College Board provide a laptop?

Students without access to a suitable device can request a College Board loan device. The current request deadline is at least 30 days before test day.

Does every US university require the SAT?

No. Testing policies vary by university and admissions cycle. Some require testing, some make it optional and some do not consider SAT scores.

Do universities in the UAE require the SAT?

There is no single UAE-wide SAT requirement. Some universities or programmes may use SAT scores or SAT Math for particular applicants, while others use different criteria.

Can I retake the SAT?

Yes. College Board does not set a fixed lifetime limit on SAT attempts. Whether another attempt is worthwhile depends on the student’s score, preparation and application timeline.

When should a Dubai student start preparing?

There is no single timetable that works for every student. The useful starting point is the current score, target, university deadlines and the student’s school workload. Detailed preparation planning is covered on our SAT preparation in Dubai page.

Should I register before starting SAT preparation?

Not automatically. A fixed test date can be useful, but the student should first understand whether the date leaves enough time to close the gap between the current score and the target.

LBE School

Know the date and the logistics? Now work out whether the student is ready.

If the student already has a practice score, we can look at the current Math and Reading & Writing results, the intended universities and the time available before the test.

If there is no reliable baseline yet, that is usually the place to start before deciding how much preparation is actually needed.
