IGCSE Maths Tutor in Dubai for Private 1-to-1 Support
Private online IGCSE Maths tutoring for students in Dubai. We work on the parts of Maths that are actually causing trouble — whether that is an unfinished topic from school, unfamiliar exam questions, repeated mistakes or preparation for Cambridge or Pearson Edexcel exams.
Lessons are private and online. They are designed for students studying IGCSE Maths in Dubai rather than for families looking for a physical tuition centre in the UAE.
IGCSE Maths tutoring
What can an IGCSE Maths tutor help with?
An IGCSE Maths tutor can help with gaps in the syllabus, difficult topics, problem solving, exam technique and preparation with exam-style questions. Private tutoring also makes it easier to see why a student is losing marks rather than simply giving them more questions to complete.
That distinction matters. A student who does not understand algebra needs something different from a student who knows the algebra but cannot recognise when to use it in an unfamiliar question.
Looking at the mistakes
Before we give them more practice, we need to know why they got it wrong
The answer on the page only tells us that something went wrong. The student’s working usually tells us much more.
The topic itself isn’t clear yet
Sometimes the student has learnt a rule without really understanding what is happening underneath it. In other cases, the difficulty goes back further — an older gap in fractions or algebra, for example, is now making a newer topic harder.
They know how to do it, but didn’t spot it in the question
Give the student a straightforward exercise and the method is fine. Change the wording or put the same idea inside a problem, and suddenly they are not sure where to start. That is a different problem from not knowing the Maths.
They started correctly and lost the marks on the way
A sign changes, a value is copied incorrectly or an algebraic step goes wrong. If that happens regularly, we want to see where it happens rather than simply looking at the final answer.
The wording is causing more trouble than the Maths
Some questions make students work out what the mathematical problem is before they can solve it. They have to decide which information matters, what the question is asking for and which method fits.
Giving all four students another worksheet may look like extra practice. It does not necessarily fix what caused the marks to disappear.
Something parents often notice
“But they understand it when the teacher explains it.”
Parents tell us this quite often, and both things can be true. A student can follow an explanation in class and still struggle when nobody is there to tell them which method the next question requires.
In a worked example, the route has already been chosen. In an exam, the student has to recognise the route for themselves.
That is why we gradually take the help away. After working through a question together, the student needs another question where the method is not announced in advance.
IGCSE Maths topics
Where the difficulty might be
We do not automatically start at the beginning of the syllabus. If fractions are secure, we move on. If an older algebra gap is now causing problems with several newer topics, that is where it makes sense to spend the time.
Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel
Which IGCSE Maths course is your child taking?
It is worth checking before tutoring begins. Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics are not identical courses, so the material we use needs to match what the student is actually studying.
Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics
If your child is taking Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics, we need to know which syllabus they are following before choosing the right questions and papers to work from.
This becomes particularly important as exam preparation gets closer and the student begins working more regularly with exam-style questions.
Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics
The same applies to Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics. Its specification and assessment are not identical to Cambridge, so we do not mix material indiscriminately between the two.
If you are not sure which board the school uses, that is something we can establish before deciding what material is appropriate.
If you contact us about IGCSE Maths tutoring, knowing the exam board is helpful. If you don’t know it yet, that’s fine too.
Past papers and exam questions
Finishing a past paper is not the same as learning from it
A past paper gives us much more than a mark. We can see which questions took too long, where the student stopped knowing what to do, whether the same algebra mistake has appeared again and which topics are still unreliable.
Sometimes the next step is another paper. Sometimes it isn’t. If three questions expose the same weakness, it usually makes more sense to stop, work on that area and come back to exam questions afterwards.
We also like returning to questions later. Solving something immediately after seeing the correction is very different from being able to solve a similar problem independently a week later.
Private 1-to-1 tutoring
What happens once we know where the problem is?
We do not need to give every part of the syllabus the same amount of time. If something is already secure, there is little value in spending half a lesson proving it again. If the same weakness keeps appearing, we stay with it.
See where things stand
We first need to know what the student is studying and what has been happening recently. Their exam board, schoolwork, tests and the questions they find difficult give us somewhere concrete to begin.
Go back to the point where it went wrong
If the student has made a mistake, we look at the working. Sometimes the missing piece is the topic itself. Sometimes the Maths is fine and the problem is recognising what the question requires.
Work through it together
We can slow the problem down, go back to the underlying idea and work through an example. But the student cannot stay dependent on the example.
Change the question
Next, we change something. The numbers may be different, the wording may change or the method may be less obvious. The student now has to recognise what to do rather than repeat the previous solution.
Check it again later
A correct answer immediately after an explanation is encouraging, but it does not tell us everything. Coming back to the same idea later shows us whether the student can now handle it without being led through the steps.
The “careless mistakes”
Sometimes a small mistake isn’t as random as it looks
Anyone can lose a minus sign once. But if signs disappear repeatedly during algebra, that tells us something. The same applies to copying numbers incorrectly, rounding too early or rushing the final few steps of a longer question.
These mistakes are frustrating because the student may understand the Maths and still lose the mark. When there is a pattern, we want the student to notice it and know what to check before moving on.
If the same “careless” mistake keeps appearing, we stop treating it as bad luck.
Online IGCSE Maths lessons
In Maths, we need to see the working
If we only see the final answer, we miss the part that tells us how the student was thinking.
During an online lesson, the student can work through the question while the tutor follows the steps on screen. If something goes wrong on line three, we can deal with line three instead of waiting until the end and simply saying that the answer is incorrect.
For families in Dubai, the online format also avoids adding another journey to a week that may already include school, homework and other activities.
Not only for struggling students
A good Maths student can still have a very specific problem
Some students come to tutoring because their foundations need work. Others are already getting respectable results but cannot quite make them consistent.
They may lose most of their marks on the final questions, take too long to find a route into unfamiliar problems or make two or three recurring mistakes in otherwise good papers. In that situation, repeating everything they already know is not a particularly good use of the lesson.
Private tutoring and group tuition
Why some students need individual attention
In a group
Everyone has to move through the lesson at roughly the same pace. That can work well for general revision, but the class cannot spend most of its time on one student’s particular algebra problem.
In a private lesson
We can spend twenty minutes on one stubborn problem if that is what the student needs, then move quickly through something that is already secure. The lesson does not have to wait for the rest of a group.
For a student with a very specific problem, that flexibility can make the lesson much more focused.
Who we work with
For students currently studying IGCSE Mathematics
Some students come to us because one topic has become a problem. Others are approaching exams and their results are inconsistent. We also work with students who are doing well overall but keep losing marks on questions that require several steps or a less obvious approach.
The starting point depends on what is happening now. We do not assume that a student with a lower test result needs to relearn everything, or that a student with a good result has nothing specific to fix.
Questions from parents
A few things you may want to know first
Do you offer IGCSE Maths tutoring for students in Dubai?
Yes. We work with students studying IGCSE Maths in Dubai. Lessons are private and take place online rather than at a physical tuition centre in the UAE.
Is the tutoring private?
Yes. Lessons are 1-to-1, so the tutor can spend the time on what that particular student needs rather than following the pace of a group.
Do you work with Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel IGCSE Maths?
We can align the tutoring with the student’s IGCSE Mathematics course. We establish the exam board first because Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics and Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics do not have identical specifications and assessments.
Can tutoring help if my child is already doing quite well?
Yes. Some students understand most of the syllabus but still lose marks on unfamiliar questions, longer problems, timing or recurring errors. In that case, the tutoring can concentrate on those areas rather than repeating the whole course.
Do you use IGCSE Maths past papers?
Yes, when they are useful for the student. We are interested not only in the final mark but in what happened inside the paper: which questions took too long, where the method broke down and which mistakes keep returning.
Should the tutor follow what my child is doing at school?
Sometimes. If the current school topic is causing difficulty, it makes sense to work on it. But an older gap may occasionally be the real reason a newer topic is difficult, so we may need to go back before moving forward again.
How do online IGCSE Maths lessons work?
The student works through questions while the tutor follows the steps and reasoning on screen. That means we can see where a method starts to go wrong instead of looking only at the final answer.
How do we know which topics my child needs help with?
Recent tests are often a good place to start. We can look at the questions the student lost marks on and see whether there is a pattern. Schoolwork and a few representative questions can also tell us whether the problem is the topic itself, the way questions are interpreted or what happens under exam conditions.
When should a student start IGCSE Maths tutoring?
There is no single point that suits everyone. Some students need help while a difficult topic is being taught. Others start when exam preparation becomes more serious. What matters is how large the gap is and how much time the student has to work on it.
Start with what you are seeing now
Tell us how your child is getting on with IGCSE Maths
You don’t need to work out exactly what the problem is before contacting us. Tell us which year your child is in, which exam board they are following if you know it, and what has been happening with Maths recently.
A recent test result or a couple of examples of the questions they struggle with can already tell us quite a lot.
