Dentist preparing for the OET exam to work in the UAE

Why Dentists in the UAE Need OET Grade B

To work as a dentist in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or other Emirates, regulators such as DHA, DOH and MOH often ask for OET Grade B (350) in all four sub-tests: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

OET for Dentistry was designed for clinical work. Case notes, letters and role-plays use real dental situations: caries, root canals, extractions, implants, orthodontics and more. The goal is simple: to make sure you can:

  • Explain treatment plans in clear English
  • Write safe and accurate referral letters to other specialists
  • Give calm, simple instructions to patients and families

Our job is to help you reach this standard with a plan that respects your time, your family and your current clinic work.

OET for Dentists vs. Generic OET Courses

Many courses in the UAE mix all health professions in one group: nurses, doctors, pharmacists and dentists in the same class. For busy dentists, this often feels slow and not relevant.

Feature Generic OET Course 1-to-1 OET for Dentists (LBE)
Profession focus Mixed healthcare groups Dentists only
Writing tasks Generic referral letters Real dental referral & discharge letters
Speaking practice Mixed medical scenarios Chair-side dental role-plays
Schedule Fixed group time slots Time slots adapted to your clinic hours
Goal Pass OET “some day” Grade B by a clear target exam date

Dental-Specific OET Writing – Referral & Discharge Letters

In the OET Writing sub-test, most dentists need to write a referral letter based on case notes. Sometimes you may also write a short discharge or transfer letter. The exam tests if you can:

  • Select only the details another dentist really needs
  • Summarize complex notes in about 180–200 words
  • Use clear, polite professional English

We work with typical dental scenarios, for example:

  • Referral to an orthodontist for severe crowding and malocclusion
  • Referral to an endodontist for persistent pain after root canal therapy
  • Referral to an oral surgeon for impacted third molars
  • Referral to a periodontist for advanced periodontal disease

You send us your letters. We return them with Band-level comments, error correction and simple models you can follow in the exam.

OET Speaking for Dentists – Real Chair-Side Scenarios

In the OET Speaking test you do two role-plays with an interlocutor. For dentists, these tasks feel very close to daily practice. We practice calm, clear English for situations such as:

  • Explaining a bitewing or panoramic X-ray to a worried patient
  • Discussing the need for a tooth extraction or root canal
  • Explaining braces or aligners to a teenager and their parents
  • Giving post-operative instructions after oral surgery or implant placement
  • Talking about gum disease and long-term maintenance

You record your role-plays online. We send back detailed comments on:

  • Clinical communication (empathy, reassurance, checking understanding)
  • Fluency, grammar, and pronunciation
  • How well you organize the conversation in 5 minutes

The goal is not “perfect English”. The goal is safe, respectful and easy-to-follow English that meets OET Grade B.

Where OET Fits in the DHA, DOH and MOH Licensing Pathway

OET is only one part of your journey to work as a dentist in the UAE. Our guidance is based on the usual steps most international dentists follow:

  1. OET preparation – focus on Grade B in all four sub-tests.
  2. OET exam – often computer-based, depending on the test center.
  3. Dataflow / Primary Source Verification – your degree, registration and experience are checked.
  4. DHA, DOH or MOH licensing exam – knowledge test for dentists.
  5. License activation & job search – hospitals, clinics and dental centers in the UAE.

Rules can change, so you should always check the latest information directly with DHA, DOH, or MOH. We do not replace official advice, but we help you understand where OET for Dentistry fits in your plan.

Fast-Track & 1-to-1 OET Coaching for Dentists

Every dentist comes with a different background: some already work in English, others are restarting after a long break. For this reason, we work with flexible private plans instead of a one-size-fits-all group course.

Standard 1-to-1 Plan

  • Weekly 1-to-1 online sessions
  • Writing correction for dental letters
  • Speaking practice with dental role-plays
  • Flexible times around your clinic hours

Ideal if you have 6–10 weeks before your OET exam.

Fast-Track Dentist Plan

  • Intensive 1-to-1 coaching (several sessions per week)
  • Daily writing and speaking tasks with quick feedback
  • Focus on your weakest sub-tests first
  • Clear strategy for your closest exam date

For dentists with an exam already booked or a short DHA/DOH deadline.

We discuss fees in a short free call, after we understand your goals, timeline and current level.
